Gwiix himihlkw woom Nisga’a (Always Shining) is from Gitlaxt’aamiks, British Columbia, with their mother’s side hailing from the house of Wilps Gwiix Maaw and their father’s side from the house of Wilps K’amskiwaahl. A proud 2025 alumnus of Nisga’a Secondary School, they are the recipient of the prestigious 2025 Governor General’s Award. They will begin their academic journey as an incoming first-year student in the science program at the University of British Columbia, with the goal of pursuing midwifery in the future.
Beyond their academic achievements, Gwiix himihlkw woom Nisga’a is a dedicated member of the community. As a 2023-2025 alumnus and a current advisory panel member of the Seed2Stem program, they have actively contributed to scientific research. Their work has covered diverse areas, including optometry, the dietary effects on the body, and most recently, a project focusing on low-grade serous ovarian cancer.
