Cathy Hu is a law student at McGill University pursuing a minor in Environment, with experience spanning politics, diplomacy, law, and climate leadership. She is a 2023 McCall MacBain Loran Scholar and a 2024 Jiuding Scholar, and has worked in the Minister office of both the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, gaining firsthand experience at the intersection of public policy and government.
Internationally, Cathy served in 2024 as Head Delegate of the Canadian Delegation to the G7 Youth Summit in Rome, where she worked with young leaders from across G7 countries to negotiate and develop policy recommendations on global priorities. She also represented Quebec youth and civil society at COP30 as part of AQOCI’s youth delegation, helping elevate youth perspectives in international climate negotiations and foster collaboration on global climate policy. Her international experience also includes work with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, where she worked at the intersection of international business, Canada–China relations, and trade diplomacy.
Closer to home, Cathy is committed to building stronger and more resilient communities. She serves on the Board of Directors of Lab22, a non-profit organization supporting schools in their socioecological transition, where she contributes to the organization’s strategic direction and governance. She is also helping lead the organization of the first-ever Montréal Climate Week, a city-wide initiative bringing together citizens, businesses, governments, universities, and community organizations through a week of public programming, dialogue, and collective climate action. Alongside her sister, she also co-founded a non-profit dedicated to the revitalization of Montréal’s Chinatown, supporting its cultural, economic, and community resilience for generations to come.
Through her experiences across government, international diplomacy, community organizing, and environmental advocacy, Cathy hopes to honour all that Canada has given her by giving back, working toward a future where today’s leaders are accountable, tomorrow’s leaders are empowered to innovate, and the next seven generations can inherit a country that is more just, resilient, and united than the one we know today.
