Dr. Brian Stevenson is Senior Advisory Fellow, Fulbright Canada West. He is also a Senior Advisory Fellow (non-resident) at the Center for U.S.-Mexico Studies, at University of California, San Diego.
In his current role with Fulbright Canada, Stevenson serves in a senior advisory role for Fulbright Canada’s West, leading engagement with key university stakeholders across British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon, supporting Fulbright Canada’s Entrepreneurship Initiative and the Honouring Nations Canada initiative.
Between 2019 and 2025, he served as President and CEO of Navitas North America, University Partnerships Division. In 2018 he was Fulbright Research Chair at the U.S. Mexico Studies Center at the University of California, San Diego.
From 2010 to 2017, Dr. Stevenson served as President and Vice-Chancellor of Lakehead University and professor in the Faculty of Business Administration. Before this he served at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba as Provost and Vice-President, (Academic) from 2006 to 2010.
Dr. Stevenson began his career at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. He then served as senior policy advisor to both the Canadian Ministers of International Trade and Foreign Affairs in Ottawa before going to the University of Alberta as Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President (International). In 2005 and 2006, he also served as interim Executive Secretary for International Development and interim Director General for the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development of the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C. In 2006, he was also a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington.
Dr. Stevenson grew up in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is fluent in English and Spanish, and holds a BA Honours and MA from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, and a doctorate from Queen’s University at Kingston, Ontario.
