Gilbert Imoesi is a fourth-year Honours student at the University of Victoria, completing a double major in Economics and Political Science. He is the Founder and Convener of The Lyceum, a student-led forum for public debate and inquiry with an African centre of gravity. He serves as the Undergraduate Representative on UVic’s Board of Governors and previously worked in internal audit at Maritime Forces Pacific, where he received an Honorary Logistician Award and Challenge Coin. He is a two-time recipient of UVic’s Black Leadership Award (2025, 2026). His research examines leapfrogging as a framework for economic development in sub-Saharan Africa, with a longer-term aim of returning to Nigeria to pursue a career in political and economic reform.
