Leslie Varley

Leslie, a member of the Killer Whale clan of the Nisga’a Nation, in the northwest of BC. She has been a lifelong committed social justice advocate with a focus on working with Indigenous peoples.

She is the Vice President, Indigenous Partnerships at Interior Health Authority, holding the Indigenous wellness portfolio for the region. She was formerly Executive Director of BC Friendship Centres where she successfully started an MBA program focussed on the not-for-profit social service sector, in partnership with the University of Victoria.  Previously Leslie held the Indigenous health portfolio for 9 years at Provincial Health Services Authority where she led the development of San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety, a cutting edge decolonizing anti-racism training program offered to the health, social and justice sectors within BC and throughout Canada.

Leslie’s community work focuses on ending racism and violence against Indigenous people, particularly towards women and girls. Leslie holds an MBA from Simon Fraser University. She resides as an uninvited guest at Westbank First Nation.
