Phil Monture is Mohawk from the Six Nations of the Grand River. From 1975 to July 2002, Phil started and became the Director of the Land Claims Research Office at the Six Nations of the Grand River training and developing our own expertise in our Land Rights at Six Nation. Phil tried to work with Canada’s numerous Land Claims Policies throughout the years, with very little success. Albeit, Six Nations was able to prove many frauds instigated by the Crowns (Canada and Ontario) and acknowledge as accurate; fair and complete justice was not achievable. The Land Claims in Canada is self serving to Canada and Ontario as an extinguishment of First Nations ownership and rights to the lands. It is another form of genocide of Indigenous Peoples’ Rights. Six Nations of the Grand River have always preferred to negotiate based on out 1784 Haldimand Treaty that our lands were established “…which Them and Their Posterity are to enjoy forever.” In 1995 the Six Nations of the Grand River had no choice but to seek justice through the courts. Phil Monture was the principal architect of the ongoing 1995 litigation against Canada and Ontario for an accounting of all Six Nations Lands, resources and assets supposedly held and managed by the Crown(s) over the last 242 years. The evidence being presented from approximately 50,000 documents and 94 expert reports from Canada, Ontario and Six Nations in addition to evidence provided by our community members. After more than 30 years under “court case management” Justice Ira Parghi was appointed on February 23, 2026, to preside at trial which is scheduled to commence in October 5 2026.
