Shauna Sylvester is a Senior Fellow of the Definity Foundation, and the Founder and Lead Convenor for Urban Climate Leadership (UCL), a project of MakeWay. She brings over 35 years of experience leading groups through complex problem solving and facilitating initiatives with local governments on housing, energy and sustainable financing.
Currently through UCL, Shauna is supporting over 300 private, public and community organizations overcome the barriers to transitioning to heat pumps in low-rise apartments and condominiums.
Shauna has worked to support sustainability in the green built environment since the mid-1980s. She is the former Executive Director of the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, the ED of Urban Sustainability Directors Network – US and Canada, and Co-Founder of six local and international dialogue initiatives: the SFU Public Square, Renewable Cities, Carbon Talks, Canada’s World, Moving in a Livable Region and IMPACS – the Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society.
Shauna is an active volunteer and has served on the boards of Tamarack Institute, Vancity, Vancity Capital and the BC Assessment Authority. She has been part of the technical expert committee for the EarthShot Prize and currently serves as President of Resilient Point Roberts where she is working with neighbours to support cultural, economic and environmental development in this small exclave community.
