Steven Nitah is of the Łutsël K’é Dene First Nation and serves as Managing Director of First
30×30 Canada and Executive Vice President at Nature For Justice. A respected Indigenous
leader, he brings extensive experience in Indigenous-led conservation, land stewardship, and
climate action.
As Chief and later Lead Negotiator for Łutsël K’é Dene First Nation, Steven helped lead the
establishment of Thaidene Nëné, advancing a relationship agreement that recognizes the
Nation as an equal partner in its governance, operations, and management. This work reflects
the spirit and intent of Treaty relationships: shared responsibilities and benefits related to lands
and resources.
Through First 30×30 Canada, Steven supports Indigenous governments in building upon their
foundational Treaty and constitutional rights to protect special places and pursue opportunities
created through global commitments, including the Paris Agreement and Global Biodiversity
Framework, advancing Indigenous-led conservation and long-term nature-based solutions
within their territories.
