In August 2023, I had to evacuate from Yellowknife due to an upstoppable wildfire that jumped firebreaks. I was a climate refugee for three weeks. It was already very clear in my head that climate change was the most important thing I could spend time on, but it also became clear in my body. Healthcare professionals are the most trusted voices out there, and our healthcare systems represent 5% of global emissions, and 10% of global world product. The most effective thing one could do to fight climate change is to decarbonize healthcare— decarbonizing the healthcare sector has ripple effects on other sectors.

I keep deep roots in beautiful Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in the Canadian sub-arctic, but I currently live in Singapore where I am helping to decarbonize the healthcare system at the Centre for Sustainable Medicine, at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, at the National University of Singapore.
