Turf, Truth & Trust: 2020 Victoria Forum tackles key global issues

Mark your calendars for Nov. 12-14, 2020 to attend the University of Victoria’s second Victoria Forum. Focusing on Bridging Divides: Turf, Truth & Trust, the event will bring together policy makers, business leaders, academics, youth and leaders of civil society. Participants will discuss ideas to bridge global divisions of identity, territory, religion, race, economic status, culture and politics, culminating in policy recommendation for political leaders.

“Our first forum, in 2017, tackled the topics of diversity and inclusion with a focus on Canada at 150.  We are now broadening our scope to reflect global issues and will explore the divides that have deepened in recent years,” says Saul Klein, Dean of the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business and Chair of the Forum. “The world is grappling with an erosion of trust in our key institutions and significant questions about the nature of truth. Couple that with a rise in eco-anxiety and displaced populations – whether due to climate or political unrest – and bringing key voices together to discuss positive, collaborative solutions to these complex issues has become critical.”

Forum speakers and panelists will stimulate discussions around bridging economic, social and environmental divides, and bring a diversity of local and global perspectives. Follow-up discussion sessions will develop actionable takeaways for delegates to implement within their own organizations.

Participants in this international gathering - through a series of panels, plenaries and think-tank style sessions - will assess global divisions using the lenses of Turf (incorporating the relationship of people to place), Truth (resolving diverse perceptions of the same reality) and Trust (which is the foundation for building relationships).
The three-day forum will also feature cultural and youth events and informal networking opportunities as part of its programming.

The Victoria Forum is partnering with a number of external organizations in the development of its program. These partners will be announced in early 2020.

TELUS is a proud founding sponsor of the Victoria Forum.
