A Better Africa for All: Building Trust & Empowering People
For nearly 30 years, Suzanne de Janasz has engaged with individuals and organizations on six continents, facilitating increased self-awareness, improving interpersonal/leadership skills, and deepening high-quality relationships…leading to higher performance and wellbeing. Her research, consulting, and executive education focuses on mentoring, work/family conflict, negotiation, and leadership, often with an emphasis on the implications of gender. She publishes regularly in practitioner (e.g., Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management Executive, Dialogue) and academic (e.g., Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Vocational Behavior, British Journal of Management) outlets and features frequently in domestic and international newspapers, online publications (including HBR online and CNN), podcasts, and radio programs. Her two market-leading textbooks Interpersonal Skills in Organizations (McGraw Hill, 8th ed., 2025) and Negotiation and Dispute Resolution (Sage, 3rd edition, 2025), are lauded for their balance of rigor and practical relevance and are available in multiple global editions.
Dr. de Janasz regularly consults (working with such clients as Nestlé, Microsoft, BAE Systems, Freddie Mac, Credit Suisse, Deloitte), serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, and has held leadership roles in academic organizations. Since 2022, Suzanne has been teaching in the Leadership Executive MBA Program at Seattle University, where she previously held the Thomas Gleed Distinguished Chair of Business Administration (2014-2016) and directed the Seattle branch of HERA (Her Equality Rights and Autonomy), a UK-based charity that empowers formerly trafficked or exploited women with career and entrepreneurship development and mentoring. Prior to first coming to Seattle, Suzanne was Professor of Leadership and Organization Development at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she designed and delivered programs for mid-level and senior executives in global companies. Her innovative and experiential approach in the classroom, which focuses on creating an inclusive and brave space in which values and habits shift to embrace a more competent, confident, and caring approach to leading others, has been recognized with multiple teaching awards, including the 2022 MBA Faculty of the Year (GMU), the 2017 Mid-Career Distinguished Educator Award from the MOBTS Teaching Society for Management Educators, and a Fulbright Fellowship (2007, Warsaw University in Poland).
After earning an undergraduate music degree from the University of Miami, Suzanne earned her MBA and PhD degrees from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California (USC). She adores travel (having visited over 70 countries), her nearly 30 year old twins, and tennis (having attended all four Grand Slams and playing regularly).
