Rik Logtenberg is the Director of CanAdapt and a Nelson City Councillor, where he has championed some of Canada’s most ambitious climate and resilience initiatives. A lifelong organizer and software entrepreneur, Rik combines deep technical expertise with a passion for community building, systems change, and climate adaptation.
As a councillor in Nelson, BC, Rik has helped lead the creation of the Nelson Climate Action Plan, set bold greenhouse gas reduction targets, and supported pioneering programs including Canada’s first municipal e-bike loan initiative, community food cycler programs, and expanded regional transit. He also serves as Chair of the BC Municipal Climate Leadership Council, the West Kootenay Regional Transit System, and is past Chair of the Community Energy Association. In 2019, Rik founded Climate Caucus, which has grown into a network of more than 600 local elected officials across Canada working together to accelerate municipal climate leadership.
Through his work at CanAdapt, Rik is building networks of practice that connect municipalities, practitioners, and communities to knowledge, tools, and each other. His approach integrates resilience thinking, regenerative economics, and collective intelligence, enabling systems to adapt and transform in the face of climate disruption. He brings decades of experience in software development, community organizing, and social innovation, having founded multiple startups including Time.ly, a global events platform serving millions.
Whether advancing climate policy, building collaborative technologies, or strengthening communities on the ground, Rik’s work is rooted in the belief that resilience comes from diversity, connection, and an embrace of complexity. He is passionate about helping communities turn risk into opportunity, moving from stability to transformation in ways that protect people, ecosystems, and the planet we all share.
